Any files and folders. It won't sync your calendar, handwritten notes, contacts, tasks or Outlook folders.

    to the FAQ list

I use ActiveSync (Windows Mobile Device Center), Do I need Easy Sync?

Standard software solution by Microsoft intended to sync your mobile device with computer - ActiveSync (or Windows Mobile Device Center) synchronizes your tasks, calendar, contacts, notes, favorites. It also can sync files, but with very limited functionality. You can sync ONLY one single folder, which is PRE-DEFINED to "\My documents\" and there is no way to change it. Therefore, Microsoft ActiveSync is helpless in case you need to sync plenty of files from different folders and storage cards in different directions.

Easy Sync is designed to give you such opportunity. Synchronize, copy, move and backup unlimited number of folders from any locations, including storage cards, absolutely automatically.

Easy Sync doesn't replace ActiveSync (Windows Mobile Device Center). Moreover, our solution is based on Microsoft software and you'll need ActiveSync or WMDC to make Easy Sync work. So, please do not uninstall these software – it still can be helpful in synching your contacts, tasks, handwritten notes and emails. Easy Sync will take care of your files and folders.

    to the FAQ list

How do I know if newer version of Easy Sync is available?

Run Easy Sync. Go to the Help menu in main dialog and click "Check for updates". to the FAQ list

What directions of transferring are supported?

When creating tasks in Easy Sync you define the action for each task. That action will be applied to files (and subfolders, optionally) listed under them. There are three types of actions supported:

  • Synchronize - files are bidirectionally copied, renamed and deleted until the contents of linked folders is equal.
  • Copy/Move to Computer - files and subfolders from the folder on your device are copied / moved to the linked folder on your computer folder (***). Files and subfolders listed only under the folder on your computer(**) are left without changes.
  • Copy/Move to Mobile device - files and subfolders from the folder on your computer are copied / moved to the linked folder on your mobile device(***). Files and subfolders listed only under the folder on your mobile device(**) are left without changes.

(*)Synchronization implemented in Easy Sync works as follows:
Step 1. Contents of two linked folders is compared
Step 2. Files and subfolders with equal names but with different Last modified dates (if there were found) are processed (***).
Step 3. Files and subfolders listed only** under the folder on your computer are copied to the folder on mobile device.
Step 4. Files and subfolders listed only** under the folder on your mobile device are copied to the folder on you computer

(**) Means that there are no files and subfolders with such names in the linked folder.
(***) file (or folder) having the latest (newest) date replaces the file (folder) with an older date without prompting.

If no connection was established at this day, the launch is discarded. For example, you have a task scheduled on 2 pm on Tuesday. It will be launched, if you connect your mobile device at any moment between 2pm and 11:59pm on Tuesday. If you will establish a connection later – the task won't be launched.

Indeed, when you connect your mobile device to computer, launching of your tasks (which has on-connect or online launch condition) is delayed for several seconds to prevent conflicts with ActiveSync (Vista Mobile Device Center). This message is shown when Easy Sync can not read license information that you've someday entered. This may happen for a variety of reasons, but solution is simple. Just find your 5-digit registration code and enter it again to confirm the license validity. If you need any assistance in that situation, please contact us.

When I try to browse my device, Easy Sync hangs on the "Loading folders" message

Users of several models of iPAQ (hx2190,  hx2410, hx2790) reported such issue. We can't locate the problem for now, cause it is somewhere outside Easy Sync. Maybe something breaks in the ActiveSync's (Windows Mobile Device Center) connection or in some other system places. We are sorry for such inconvenience and will continue searching for the solution. Your help is appreciated!

I get "Can't read device name" message

Sometimes the connection between your mobile device and computer becomes unstable. It usually happens when you haven't rebooted your pc for a long time. So, you can get the message "Can't read device name". It means Easy Sync can't get the name of your mobile device to load the appropriate task list. Please, check your connection status in Microsoft ActiveSync dialog (Windows Mobile Device Center).

The only way we found for now to solve the problem: restart Easy Sync. We are sorry for inconveniences.

I've changed a file on PC, but it doesn't seem to be synced to mobile device

There is a case when such behavior is possible. The most common example is: you've set up a task to continuously sync a folder with docs. But after you make changes to e.g. Excel or Word files, the new versions of docs are not synced to your mobile device. The reason is in access permissions to files you're working with. Such applications as Microsoft Office usually lock files they're working with. Easy Sync can't access them, while they're opened. So the solution in such situations is simple - just close the document you worked with so it could be synced to your device.

May be there are other cases when file is locked by another application and Easy Sync can't process it. You can contact us and to find out if there is s solution.

I've changed file attributes, but a task created to continuously monitor changes missed that

Yes, right. There is a little gap in tasks continuously monitoring changes made to files. Changes made to attributes are not reflected in real time. If you find this gap important - please contact us so we could knew there is a man who needs this gap to be filled.

Changes made to file on mobile device are not reflected in real time

If you've created a task to continuously monitor changes made to files and after you update files on your mobile device - nothing happens with linked files on computer - know that we haven't yet implemented monitoring in real time on the side of mobile device.

But there is a solution if you need to continuously reflect changes made to files on your mobile device to your computer. Just create a task and enable schedule for it. Set up it to run each 5 minutes and it will do the job you need.

    to the issues list

If I run a task from Preview dialog, comparison of files starts again.

That true. If you run a preview for a task and then click Process now, files and folders will be compared again before processing. We can see a disadbantage in such behavior, tasks processing folders with many files can take quite a long time for comparing.

We are thinking of improving the algorithm, cause such changes can bring even more functionality to the preview dialog. Let us know if you have you own ideas about it (click here).

    to the issues list

The specified path, file name, or both are too long

If you have FAT or FAT32 file system you can face with such issue. It is about a length of a path to a folder you wish to process with an Easy Sync task.

We are sorry, but that is a specific of FAT file system. We encourage you to use NTFS which is more flexible and modern.
